Gum disease treatment
Deep cleaning and follow-up care that clears bacteria from below the gum line, calms inflamed gums and protects the bone that holds your teeth.

Gum disease treatment in Hosur: what is involved
Gum disease starts when plaque and tartar build up along and under the gum line. In its early stage, gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and bleed easily, and it can usually be reversed with professional cleaning and better home care. Left alone it progresses to periodontitis: bacteria get beneath the gums, pockets form, and the ligaments and bone holding your teeth begin to break down, which can end in loose teeth or tooth loss.
Treatment begins with scaling and root planing, a deep clean that removes plaque and tartar above and below the gum line and smooths the root surfaces so bacteria find it harder to reattach. Gum disease cannot be cured, only controlled, so the lasting result depends on your follow-up visits and daily routine. More advanced cases can need antibiotics placed in the pockets or gum surgery, and we will explain if that applies to you.
Gum disease treatment: step by step
We examine the gums and the bone around your teeth to see whether you have gingivitis or periodontitis, and how far it has gone.
Under local anaesthetic, plaque and tartar are removed from above and below the gum line using hand scalers or ultrasonic instruments, and the root surfaces are smoothed. It takes one to two hours, sometimes split over two visits.
There are no cuts or stitches, and most people carry on as normal the same day. Expect tender gums, a little bleeding and some sensitivity to temperature, usually settling within one to two months.
Regular maintenance cleans, every few months at first, keep bacteria from building up again. How often depends on how your gums respond.
Good to know about Gum disease treatment
Bleeding when you brush, red or swollen gums, persistent bad breath, gums pulling away from the teeth, pus along the gum line and loose teeth. Early gum disease is often painless, so bleeding gums are worth checking even without discomfort.
Brush along the gum line, clean between your teeth daily, and keep every maintenance visit. Gum disease is very common, with almost half of adults over 30 having some form, and treatment works best the earlier it starts.
