Teeth extraction in Hosur: what is involved

A tooth is removed when other treatment cannot save it: a fracture, severe decay, advanced gum disease, or a tooth that is impacted or badly crowded. We first check whether a filling, root canal or crown could keep it, because your own tooth is nearly always the best option, and we only recommend extraction when it is not.

The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic, loosened and lifted out with specialised instruments, and the socket is cleaned. A bone graft is sometimes placed to protect the jawbone, and stitches may be used. A gap left empty can let neighbouring teeth drift and change your bite, so we talk through replacing the tooth with an implant, a bridge or a denture before you leave.

Teeth extraction: step by step

We examine the tooth and take an X-ray, explain why it cannot be saved, and go through the other options before you decide.

Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth and the area around it, so you feel pressure but no pain.

The tooth is loosened and lifted out, and the socket is cleaned. Stitches or a bone graft are added only if they are needed.

We give you written aftercare, and once the area has healed we can place an implant, bridge or denture to fill the gap.

Good to know about Teeth extraction

Looking after the socket

Eat soft foods, rinse gently with an antimicrobial mouthwash two or three times a day, and take any medicine as prescribed. Do not poke the site, rinse or spit hard, use a straw, or smoke, and avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting for 48 to 72 hours.

What to expect

Bleeding, bruising, soreness and swelling are normal and usually ease within a week. Call us if you have a fever, pus, or severe pain that tablets do not relieve. Dry socket and infection are the main complications, and nerve injury is rare.
