Kids' check-ups in Hosur: what is involved

Baby teeth matter. They let children chew, speak clearly and smile with confidence, and they hold space for the adult teeth that follow, which is why they are sometimes called nature's braces. Decay in baby teeth can affect how the permanent teeth come through. Children should see a dentist after the first tooth appears and no later than their first birthday.

A first visit is short and gentle. We check the teeth for decay, look at the bite, jaw and gums, and clean the teeth, then give you tips for daily care and advise whether fluoride would help. A young child can sit on your lap in the chair. X-rays usually begin around age 5 or 6, as the adult teeth start to arrive. Regular visits after that let us follow development and treat small problems early.

Included in your treatment
✓Gentle exam of teeth, gums, bite and jaw✓Cleaning of the teeth✓Assessment of whether fluoride is needed✓X-rays when your child is old enough to need them✓Advice on brushing, diet and daily care✓Time for your questions on thumb-sucking, dummies and teething

Kids' check-ups: step by step

Your child can sit on your lap if they are small or nervous. We take it at their pace and explain what is happening in simple words.

We look at the teeth, bite, jaw, gums and the tissues of the mouth, checking for decay and anything that needs watching.

The teeth are cleaned, and we assess whether a fluoride treatment would help protect them.

We go through brushing and diet with you and your child, answer your questions, and book the next visit.

Good to know about Kids' check-ups

Preparing your child

Talk about the visit in a positive way, practise opening wide, and try a book or video about the dentist. Choose a time when your child is well rested, not nap time, and give them a light meal first. If they cry, that is normal and nothing to worry about.

Daily care at home

Wipe the gums with a damp cloth before teeth appear. Once they do, brush twice a day with a smear of fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of rice, moving to a pea-sized amount from age 3. Start flossing when two teeth touch, and keep sugary food and drinks limited.
